DIY 5-Minute Jewelry Frame

This super easy tutorial originates back from 2011, at the starting stages of Jewelry Sugar! Back then the name was "Sugar Pop Boutique" and I was testing the waters to see where my craft would lead me. Who knew that years later - with thousands of jewelry pieces under my belt - I'd be featuring the same tutorial on my new blog! I had a lot of fun making this jewelry frame, and still use it today!

Materials You'll Need:

- Picture Frame (any size), with the cardboard base
- Fashion Lace Fabric (enough to fold 2 times)
- Hot Glue, Wood Stapler or E6000 (cold epoxy glue)
- Small Hooks (Optional)
- Spray Paint (Optional) - While there are many wood paints and finishing treatments available, I actually start most of my frames by spray painting them a different color! It's quick, easy and inexpensive. You may want to prep your frame by painting it beforehand, too. The choice is yours!

I started with a Michael's 10x13 frame that was purchased from their 75% off bin, in addition to 1/2 a yard of black fashion lace from Joann's Fabric. All in all, a total of $6 was spent for these two items! You can see the layers of lace in the photo at left. I folded mine in half two times since it was pretty thin, creating 4 layers of the stuff. This hides the particle board and gives you enough lace to hang items onto when it's done. When inserting, make sure to leave at least 1/2" of lace hanging out on each of the four sides.

Pull the edges gently until the lace is smoothed out on the other side.

Cut away the extra material. That's it... you're done here. Move it along.

It's technically *not* necessary to staple or glue the fabric in place, however, it will create a more finished piece and ensure you don't accidentally pull the fabric out of place down the line. The choice is yours but if you'll be using this daily, or placing heavier objects, then I suggest gluing it down.

Woo hoo! You're done! Now all you have to do is hang it up and put it to use! Hang as little or as much as you'd like. I added re-purposed hooks from another item I had lying around at the bottom. You may choose to add your own variation as needed! It probably took longer to write up this tutorial than it took to make the actual frame display! I'd love to see what your "5 minutes or less" frame looks like - just add a comment below ;)
